French broadcasting watchdog: Actors must wear condoms in TV porn.

The days of condom-free porn on French cable television are nearing an end. Starting next year, channels will no longer be allowed to air porn with scenes of unprotected sex because it sets a dangerous example, the official French broadcasting watchdog High Audiovisual Council, or CSA, announced Wednesday. "The risks actors take by having unprotected sex during filming are real," AIDS awareness organization Act Up wrote to the CSA in January, pressing for the change. "These films trivialize and possibly glorify risky sex."

Internet is for porn, not flak in Homewood.

Village employees in Homewood can search the Internet for pornography or gamble online from their office computers, but they cannot access a Web site critical of the current village administration. When employees go to HomewoodNow.com, a Web site rife with criticism of village actions and policies, they get an error message. According to site creator T.J. McHugh, an opponent of the current administration's slate in the 2005 election, the site was started to share opinions on local happenings in a public forum. McHugh and a number of Homewood residents contribute to HomewoodNow. The Web site is produced in the same format as the site used for McHugh's "Homewood First" party in the 2005 election.

Mobile e-mail heading for the masses.

Accessing e-mail from a cell phone is no longer just for corporate bigwigs. New services are arriving that make it easier and more affordable for everyone, from soccer moms to college students, to check and send messages from regular mobile handsets. On Thanksgiving Day, a start-up called Berggi will launch a service that is intended to make accessing e-mail and sending instant messages easier on low-cost mobile phones. Mobile operators have been integrating mobile e-mail clients into their phones for more than a year, and more handset models are being added to the e-mail capable lineup. One key to the success of mobile e-mail will be making it easy and economical to use. Babur Ozden, chief executive of Berggi, said the service aggregates all personal e-mail and instant messaging clients into a single interface, for simpler access. And the service can be used on just about any handset, offering a less expensive alternative to corporate-based e-mail services from companies such as Research In Motion, maker of the BlackBerry handheld messaging device.

Warning: do not search Yahoo! for 'franchise'.

We're obliged to the anonymous reader who's just tipped us off that anyone tempted to do a Yahoo! image search for "franchise" will get a bit more than nice pictures of Starbucks. For the sake of common decency, we've pixellated the offending images, which are topped by a fine study of a young lady entertaining a horse, another not-so-young lady (without legs, for the love of all that's Holy) entertaining a chap, and a young man with an improbably large appendage lounging about on a boat. All the top search results come from the same domain, although mercifully any attempt to click on them gets a "you don't have permission to access..." message.

Ron Jeremy Joins the Fun at HBO’s ‘Comic Relief’.

Ron Jeremy became one of the star attractions at "Comic Relief 2006" last Saturday at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and he never took the stage. The Metro Studios contract star and AVN Hall of Fame performer sat in the front row as a guest of Bunny Ranch owner Dennis Hof, who is friends with executive producer Bob Zmuda. Once celebrity entertainers such as Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, George Lopez and Rosie O’Donnell noticed him in the audience, Jeremy became the focus of several good-natured jokes.

USB crowned as high speed SIM standard.

ETSI has finally agreed a standard for high-speed access to the SIM used in GSM mobile phones, after several years of prevarication and filibustering the winner is...USB. SIM chips in phones currently communicate with a handset over a serial connection at a speed of 9600bps, which is fine for exchanging cryptographic keys or saving an SMS message to a SIM with a 16KB capacity, but Orange (in France) are already deploying SIMs with a capacity of 128MB, making faster communications essential. The problem has been that there were two competing standards - one based on MMC (Multimedia Memory Card) and the other on USB (Universal Serial Bus). MMC is easier and cheaper to implement, while USB is more robust and leaves a spare connection on the SIM for other things (such as an NFC antenna connection), and ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute) has been deadlocked between the options.

UK ISP mislays domains beginning with 'C'.

UK ISP Legend Communications has been suffering an alphabetical technical problem over the past couple of days apparently affecting its Designer Servers customers. Mercifully, Legend is now part of THUS plc which boasts a "state-of-the-art next-generation network". This would explain why the latest network status report declares the issue has "now been located and the problem eradicated". Indeed, Legend customers should note that merely mislaying domains beginning with "C" is a great improvement on previous performance. Back in September, the ISP's email, IP telephony and domain name servers were smitten by a catastrophic power outage at Legend's Docklands IP House, resulting in much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

IE and Firefox blighted by fake login flaw.

The latest versions of both Firefox and Internet Explorer are vulnerable to an unpatched flaw that allows hackers to snaffle users' login credentials via automated phishing attacks. The information disclosure bug affects the password manager in Firefox 2.0 and its equivalent in IE7. Firefox's Password Manager, for example, fails to properly check URLs before filling in saved user credentials into web forms. As a result, hackers might be able to swipe users credentials via malicious forms in the same domain, providing users have already filled out forms on this domain. Samples of attacks utilising the flaw have already been reported on MySpace. Firefox 2.0 users might be more at risk from the flaw because IE7 does not automatically fill in saved information. Security notification firm Secunia advises users to disable the "remember passwords for sites" option in their browsers pending the delivery of patches.

K-Fed's lawyer denies sex tape.

So did they or didn't they? That's the question on gossip-addicts' lips with the latest development in the Federline / Spears sex video story. And that development is... Er, what sex video? According to Mark Vincent Kaplan, K-Fed's attorney, 'There is not a sex video of Kevin and Britney in existence.' Despite recent stories of 'scenes' being leaked to the internet, a porn merchant offering 100m dollars for the rights, K-Fed's alleged blackmail plans to get custody of the kids and Britney's threat to release it anyway to scupper K-Fed's plans; they all appear to be false!

A Comparison of Paid Search Advertising Models.

As webmasters, we are all chasing customers. We are looking for human visitors to come to our websites and to buy what we are selling. To serve our needs for targeted traffic --- potential customers --- the search companies have begun to offer us a share of their significant traffic through many paid advertising methods. The most common advertising offer at the search engines is the PPC (Pay-Per-Click) advertising model. There are also other search advertising models such as CPM (Cost Per Thousand Impressions) and Featured Listings. In this article, we will look at the advantages and disadvantages of each advertising method.

Webmaster Toy Run Adds Second Silent Auction.

The Third Annual Webmaster Toy Run went so well at the beginning of November, Mike M., co-founder of SexEntertain, is running another silent auction to benefit kids this holiday season. As Mike explained it, everything began with a simple idea: connecting directly with abandoned, abused, or terminally ill children in order to make their holidays a little less difficult. The event raises funds to provide toys, books, and other holiday gifts to organizations focusing on underprivileged, orphaned, and disabled children.

AVG anti-virus stays free . Pop-up confusion.

Users of a free version of GRISoft's AVG anti-virus software have begun receiving pop-up messages this week warning that their package would no longer be supported from 15 January. This prompted concerns among a number of Reg readers that GRISoft was ditching the free version of its security software. Actually, the firm is simply encouraging users to upgrade from AVG Free version 7.1 to AVG Free version 7.5, which boasts improved performance and compatibility with Windows Vista. A spokesman for GRISoft confirmed that the firm had no plans to ditch its line of free software, while stressing users would enjoy improved support with the paid-for version of the software.

Crayfish enjoy a bit of sub-dom: official.

Scientists from Georgia State University have rather splendidly discovered that crayfish "act out elaborate rituals of dominance and submission". Specifically, Fadi Issa and Donald Edwards found said crustaceans "display... a complex ritual, when two males engaged in pseudocopulatory behaviour to signify their dominance relationship" which was followed by "a reduction in aggression and an increased likelihood of the subordinate's survival". Indeed, this is not just a bit canine rolling on your back when the top dog's around - it's a matter of life or death for crayfish. The researchers noted that "lower-ranking crayfish that did not go along with another male's overtures were killed, dismembered, and partially eaten".

Creator of China's largest porn website jailed for life.

The creator of China's largest pornographic website was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday. Judges at the Taiyuan Intermediate People's Court handed down the sentence to Chen Hui and ordered the confiscation of 100,000 yuan (12,500 U.S. dollars). The other eight organizers of the website were jailed for terms ranging from 13 months to ten years. The nine were convicted of profiting from pornographic dissemination. Apart from one who is over 50, the average age of the other eight criminals is just 23. Chen, 28, and his accomplices started the Qingseliuyuetian (pornographic summer) website in 2004 and opened a further three porn websites, attracting more than 600,000 users. A police source said it was difficult to know the exact illegal profits of the website because most of the money was spent or saved in foreign bank accounts. The police found about 200,000 yuan (25,000 U.S. dollars) in the Chinese bank accounts of the nine. A member of the public complained to city police on June 21 last year that a hospital website had changed to become the homepage of a porn website.

Microsoft Brings 129 Lawsuits Against Phishers.

Microsoft is helping law enforcers hunt down criminals who try to steal bank account details on the Internet and has initiated 129 lawsuits in Europe and the Middle East, the U.S. software company said. One court case in Turkey has already led to a 2.5-year prison sentence for a so-called "phisher" in Turkey, and another four cases against teenagers have been settled out of court, Microsoft said on Wednesday, eight months after it announced the launch of a Global Phishing Enforcement Initiative in March. "Sometimes we initiate our own legal action, but more importantly we work with law enforcement agencies," said Nancy Anderson, deputy general counsel at the software company. Of the 129 lawsuits that have been initiated, 97 are criminal procedures in which Microsoft and other technology companies have provided information.

Florida's anything-goes gay getaway.

It was a Key West moment that was enough to shock this San Franciscan. I entered the 801 Bourbon bar on a Sunday afternoon during my first day on the island at the southernmost tip of the continental U.S. I followed another man through a curtain to another bar in back of the main bar. There was a small group of people at the bar and a man playing pool – in the nude. While playing pool in the nude may get you thrown out of a bar in San Francisco, it doesn't raise an eyebrow in Key West. It's just part of another day in the live and let live vacation island paradise just 90 miles from Cuba. The Bourbon Street Pub complex, along Key West's main drag, Duval Street, is at the gay center of nightlife in Key West. The nightlife and gay vacation resorts that sprouted up like weeds in the late 1970s and early 1980s were largely responsible for a renaissance in the city. Before that rebirth 30 years ago, its floundering popularity was evident in the rundown and abandoned storefronts along Duval Street, in the center of downtown.

Law designed to protect kids from porn raises First Amendment concerns.

In a legal battle pitting the good of our children -- the essence of innocence -- against the threat of porn and smut -- four-letter words that ooze evil -- one would think the outcome would be sure and simple. Not quite. Instead, the legal challenge to the Child Online Protection Act now unfolding in a federal courtroom in Philadelphia is in its eighth year, has produced five different decisions at the trial, appeals and Supreme Court levels, and has had three different U.S. attorneys general as defendants. Some of us know a little about this trial; most of us don't. Yet it has serious implications for what all of us may say and see on the Internet and what our children shouldn't.

If one percent of the web is porn, is that a lot?

The answer to this question has apparently become relevant in a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union against the U.S. government over the long-dormant Children's Online Protection Act. How much porn is really out there on the Internet? The answer is that about one percent of web pages "contain sexually explicit material," according to a "confidential" analysis of Google and Microsoft search data done at the behest of the Department of Justice, which wants to reactivate the law that the ACLU successfully blocked. But that one percent figure begs a second, apparently more significant question: Is one percent a lot -- or not?

The Seven Deadly Sins of Small Business.

Owners and executives must be leaders first and managers second. As leaders our task is first and foremost to be about doing the right things, and the “seven deadly sins,” should be on the top of your list as leadership issues you are dealing with on a regular basis. Building a small business is one of the most rewarding, but risky ventures one could possibly venture into. Most papers on small business deal primarily with financing and risk management, which are only symptoms of the real issues. Your bank account is just the scorecard of how well you have developed your leadership skills relative to accomplishing the “right things.”This paper will help you avoid many of the costly pitfalls of operating a small business, assuming you heed the advice. Avoiding these pitfalls will in turn help you to conserve cash, develop market share, increase sales, improve customer loyalty, increase employee retention and build efficiencies into your operation.

New type of Pornware infection waiting for us.

Have you ever heard about Pornware? Probably not, but many of us can guess what this means. Beside viruses, spyware, adware and malware there is a new type of infection available all over the Internet waiting for our computers to spread it. Actually, Pornware represents programs and other infected files that will force users to display and run adult content. The best definition is offered by Kaspersky Lab, a powerful fighter against all types of infected files: “The term Pornware denotes programs which are involved in causing pornographic content to be displayed to the user. The Pornware class currently includes Porn-Dialer, Porn-Downloader and Porn-Tool programs. Dialers connect to pornographic phone services. Downloader programs will download pornographic material to the host machine. Porn-Tool covers all types of utilities which are connected with searching for and displaying pornographic material (e.g. special browser toolbars or video players).” It is very easy to run a Pornware application because - in most cases - the antivirus software doesn’t recognize the program as infected.

California court: Websites not liable for libel in third-party postings.

Websites that publish inflammatory information written by other parties cannot be sued for libel, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday. The ruling in favour of free online expression was a victory for a San Diego woman who was sued by two doctors for posting an allegedly libelous e-mail on two websites. Some of the Internet's biggest names, including Amazon.com, America Online Inc., EBay Inc., Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc., took the defendant's side out of concern a ruling against her would expose them to liability. In reversing an appellate court's decision, the state Supreme Court ruled that the Communications Decency Act of 1996 provides broad immunity from defamation lawsuits for people who publish information on the Internet that was gathered from another source. "The prospect of blanket immunity for those who intentionally redistribute defamatory statements on the Internet has disturbing implications," Associate Justice Carol Corrigan wrote in the majority opinion. "Nevertheless ... statutory immunity serves to protect online freedom of expression and to encourage self-regulation, as Congress intended."

Britney Spears is planning to put her sextape on the Internet before Kevin Federline does.

Britney Spears is planning to put her homemade sex tape on the internet to prevent estranged husband Kevin Federline from cashing in on it. The 'Toxic' singer was left fuming after Kevin reportedly threatened to sell the X-rated footage - which is said to feature the couple romping on their honeymoon - to online porn mogul David Hans Schmidt. To prevent the former dancer from profiting from the footage, which could be worth up to £120 million, Britney has apparently made the decision to give it away for free. Nyla Price, a friend of Britney's, is quoted by Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "She figures she'll beat the sucker to the punch. Half of nothing is nothing and that's what her lying skunk of a husband will get if she gives that video away before he can find some sleazeball to buy it. He's the only one that comes out looking stupid."

AJAX and 2.0 madness.

Web 2.0 has a lot to answer for. Why, incidentally, is it not simply Web 2? In any case, I have no quarrel with Web 2.0: what I do have a quarrel with is all the other 2dotohs that keep springing up. There is SaaS (software as a service) 2.0 for example and, most recently, Business Objects has been talking about BI 2.0. This looks altogether too much like a trend, so here is my first (early) prediction for 2007: we will see more and more 2dotohs dreamed up by fancy marketing executives. I guess we should be lucky that data warehouse appliances vendors haven't described themselves as data warehousing 2.0. And it won't end there: some smart Alec will figure out that if 2dotoh is good then 3dotoh will be great. Moreover, we'll probably start to have products that incorporate 2dotoh. So, instead of product x release y+1 we'll have product x release y 2.0. Oh yuck - pass me the sick bag!

Web censorship law may come out of hibernation.

In 1998, the U.S. Congress enacted a sweeping Web censorship law that nearly everyone promptly forgot about. Why? The explanation is simple: The American Civil Liberties Union immediately filed a lawsuit to block the U.S. Justice Department, and a federal judge granted an injunction barring prosecutors from enforcing the law. That injunction has been in place ever since. But now that could change. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Lowell A. Reed, Jr. in Philadelphia will hear closing arguments in the Child Online Protection Act case, and a ruling is expected by early 2007. It's unlikely that Reed will lift the injunction, but it is possible. The case has already gone up to the U.S. Supreme Court once, at which point the justices asked Reed to evaluate whether the effectiveness of blocking software had changed in the last few years--a crucial question on which much of the case hinges. Measured SEM Success.

Search engine marketing is simultaneously an intense game of taking action to increase sales while also a patient intermission of waiting to see the results. There is almost always something that can be done to improve your site and your search rankings, but after making specific changes you must be patient enough to wait for the results of those changes to come back and be compared against the previous changes. This is the same whether you're making changes to improve your engine rankings or to increase conversion rates. The changes you can make to your site are virtually endless but making many changes too quickly without testing comparing the results of those changes will almost always lead to a less than optimal marketing campaign.

Peruvians fret over erotic theme park.

When Peruvian officials set out to spread the wealth, they probably didn't mean mayors should build extravagant town halls and heated swimming pools. And they almost certainly didn't expect this wind-swept hamlet high on the Andean plateau to spend its windfall on an erotic sculpture park. The sexually explicit creations in this isolated village 100 miles northeast of the capital have become the focus of a furor over public spending that is dominating Sunday's nationwide local elections and posing a political headache for President Alan Garcia just four months after he was elected in a stunning comeback.

Florida Adult Business Regulations Barely Pass.

Just a little over half of Tampa voters indicated that they want sexually oriented businesses regulated “to the fullest extent of the law” after last week’s nonbinding referendum. The “yes” vote, which was originally indicated at 52 percent, grew to 58 percent when the city results were combined with those in unincorporated Hillsborough County, where voters overwhelmingly supported the measure. A few conservative activists say they will make the referendum's outcome a campaign issue in the March city elections for mayor and council.

Second Life Will Save Copyright.

Businesses in Second Life are in an uproar over a rogue software program that duplicates "in world" items. They should be. But the havoc sewn by Copybot promises to transform the virtual word into a bold experiment in protecting creative work without the blunt instrument of copyright law. Second Life, operated by Linden Labs, has developed differently from other virtual worlds because it allows custom content and encourages in-world enterprise. It's a hospitable place for creators to sell virtual goods like clothing, furniture and hairstyles. As in any economy, the value of those goods depends on their scarcity: people will pay more for a fantastic hairdo that no one else has. If Copybot can indiscriminately duplicate these items, no one has to pay the creator for them. Copying is a value killer.

Newest Emergence from Porn Industry: JC's Girls.

Christianity is known to have many dimensions and has changed the lives of many. “Through the simple act of asking for forgiveness with a sincere heart and letting God be in charge of your life, you can live a life knowing that God will always be there in good times and bad,” Heather Veitch said. Not only is Veitch a Christian, but she’s also a former Las Vegas exotic dancer and the founder of JC’s (Jesus Christ) Girls. Veitch, along with Lori Albee and a group of women from the Sandals Church in California, created a Web site designed to minister to men and women in the adult entertainment industry that is making moves throughout the country. “I’ve never heard of JC’s girls before,” said Deborah Ayorinde, a sophomore film production major. “They sound like a positive ministry though, being a Californian myself I know that the adult [entertainment] industry is big there, so it’s good that people are taking the initiative to stop what’s going on,” Ayorinde added.

Traffic Monetization Optimization - TMO

The Traffic Monetization Optimization (TMO) strategy is the latest approach that website owners are focusing on to generate revenues. The TMO strategy can be put into effect faster and help generate revenue in less time than the current Search Engine Optimization (SEO) model that many website consultants are touting. Website owners who want to make money from their websites focus on one or more forms of “monetization”. These revenue streams include text ads, banner ads, the sale of products, the sale of services, e-zines, and the sale of information like news, information or research.

Calif. Couple Calls for Orgasm for Peace.

Two peace activists have planned a massive anti-war demonstration for the first day of winter. But they don't want you marching in the streets. They'd much rather you just stay home. The Global Orgasm for Peace was conceived by Donna Sheehan, 76, and Paul Reffell, 55, whose immodest goal is for everyone in the world to have an orgasm Dec. 22 while focusing on world peace. "The orgasm gives out an incredible feeling of peace during it and after it," Reffell said Sunday. "Your mind is like a blank. It's like a meditative state. And mass meditations have been shown to make a change." The couple are no strangers to sex and social activism. Sheehan, no relation to anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, brought together nearly 50 women in 2002 who stripped naked and spelled out the word "Peace." The stunt spawned a mini-movement called Baring Witness that led to similar unclothed demonstrations worldwide.

'Tis the season to send spam.

Mass e-mailers traditionally bump up their activity as the year winds down. But this year, the amount of junk messages could be unprecedented, companies that make spam-busting tools say. And senders of unsolicited ads are already celebrating the close of the harvest season and the approach of Christmas. "Just as legitimate vendors began stocking their shelves with holiday decor and gifts before Halloween, spammers started sending spam messages tailored to the holiday gift-giving season earlier this year," said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management at Barracuda Networks, a Mountain View, Calif., maker of security appliances.

Microsoft makes claim on Linux code.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said that every user of the open source Linux system could owe his company money for using its intellectual property. The statement will confirm the worst fears of the open source community. Microsoft recently signed a deal for SUSE Linux, a Novell-owned distribution of the Linux operating system. The two companies pledged that they would improve the interoperability of their products. Open source advocates were amazed at the deal, but Ballmer's comments could vindicate the suspicions of some. Ballmer said in a question and answer session at a technology conference that Microsoft signed the deal because Linux "uses our intellectual property" and it wanted to "get the appropriate economic return for our shareholders from our innovation".

When Do Inbound Links Dictate Ranking?

"We have been told by an SEO consultant that, once the number of inbound links becomes significant, this rather than any SEO optimisation of the site itself dictates ranking for search terms. How true? If so, it implies that, to make any changes in rankings and search terms, we need to devote effort to links and link text from appropriate sites (authority etc). It implies time spent on adjusting title tags, keyword density etc, is fruitless." Paul C. Answer: As I see it the issue is that your SEO consultant has told you once a large number of incoming links are obtained their ranking power will usurp the benefit of optimization. In my opinion this is too bold a statement to make so I will try to define it better in two parts:

Iranian Actress Caught on Sex Tape Faces Jail.

Earlier this year, Radar took a trip around the world to investigate the rise of local Paris Hiltons supposedly cropping up from India to Russia, spreading sex tapes, dubious publicity stunts, and tiny little dogs across the globe. It was all fun and games, until Paris's name was used to smear someone in a country less tolerant of the Western-style freedom Hilton embodies for better or much, much worse. Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi has been fired from her job on a soap opera and may face a prison sentence for the contents of a 5-year-old private sex tape allegedly leaked by her ex-boyfriend. The Daily Mail is reporting that Ebrahimi has had to quell rumors that she killed herself to avoid the shame associated with sex outside of marriage, by releasing the following statement: "I just want to tell my country's people I am alive. I am thinking about the strength of Iranian women and will defend the respect of the girls and women of my nation."

VIPs stay away from UK Adult Film Awards ceremony.

The "VIPs" who slipped out of their limousines and posed for flashing paparazzi at London's Hammersmith Palais last night were supposed to have looked like guests of any mainstream film awards. Organisers had promised the inaugural UK Adult Film Awards would be a dignified, Bafta-style gala complete with red carpet, engraved awards, an independent panel of judges - who had the dubious honour of sitting through 60 "adult" films each - and roll-drum suspense over each of the 35 categories, ranging from a lifetime achievement commendation to the curiously named best script award. "In time the Adult Film Awards will be bigger than the Oscars." An ambitious claim, and one not taken lightly by Gill Herd, manager of a nearby women's project who joined others denouncing the awards hours before the curtains opened. "You can't possibly package porn as ordinary," she said. "At its essence it degrades women - violates and ojectifies them." To counter their critics, the organisers invited a prestigious array of leading lights from the mainstream film establishment, including an Oscar-winning director, officials from the actors' unions, the head of the British Film Institute and the chief executive of the UK Film Council. Unfortunately, none of them came. In their place were several hundred punters who, for just £10, could cram into a downstairs disco where they were promised "photos with your favourite porn stars".

Choosing the Right Telephone Headset.

As little as 10 years ago the choices of telephone headsets for your home or office were few and vendors were limited. Now with the advent of new technology and the internet, the choices are great and suppliers are plentiful. Choosing the best headset for your application and finding a company that knows and understands the product with the ability to support your needs before and after the sale has become essential. Choosing the appropriate headset can be accomplished by considering the grade, model, and style of the headset and by selecting an experienced and reputable supplier.

The sex trade has moved to Craigslist, and cops aren't far behind. Wrapping up a two-week sting, Seattle police vice detectives said Wednesday they've arrested nearly 100 men seeking to pay for sex, along with more than a dozen prostitutes. Nearly all of the men had responded to phony ads posted on Craigslist, the popular classifieds Web site. "Let me tell you what -- it was eye-opening," Lt. Eric Sano said. Locally, more law enforcement agencies are cracking down on prostitution advertised online. Earlier this year, police in Everett and Portland arrested several women advertising sex on Craigslist.

Pornographic query: Is a DP inherently sexist?

Is the sexual practice in which two men penetrate a woman anally and vaginally at the same time -- a "DP," or double penetration in the vernacular of the pornography industry -- inherently sexist? When I first got into academic life, I couldn't have predicted some of the questions that would come my way. But after nearly two decades of writing and speaking about the contemporary pornography industry, not much surprises me. This question was posed to me recently by a man who had read an essay of mine in which I had argued that men's ability to achieve sexual pleasure by masturbating as they watch DP scenes in pornographic movies was an example of a failure of empathy. Is a DP inherently degrading and therefore sexist, as my essay implied? After corresponding a bit with the man, I realized I had never addressed the question directly in print. He pressed for a simple yes-or-no answer, but it seems more useful to walk through a careful response to the question. So, let's start with ...

What's your domain name worth? Perhaps it is better to ask how much a potential buyer would be willing to pay to acquire your domain name. If there was some interest in your domain name, you ought to, at least, have some kind of idea of its value. Generally, is the domain good or bad? If good, how good is it? If you were to visit any domain reseller sites, you will find literally thousands of ridiculous names. If you scrutinize their asking prices, it will leave you shaking your head in amazement. They run into the thousands and even millions. Names like ApeChatsWorth.com ... It would be better to let them expire or sell cheap if you can find a 'fool'. So how do you tell if you have a winning name? I know someone will be quick to say, "That's easy. Get them appraised."

The war we should be fighting now is the war on pornography. This is the enemy far more dangerous than Islamic terror. Pornography in all of its forms intends the destruction of moral America. Pornography is the industry of evil that sets out to destroy marriages and children by every form of sexual degradation. Its billions of profits control politicians who lust for the money, the power and the sex it affords them. It is the evil that encourages homosexual rights and pedophiles.

New steps in Britain to extend police powers to punish porn users.

A new criminal justice bill seeks to criminalise the possession of a wider range of pornography in Britain. Film censorship expert Julian Petley comments. They will try to control the web (impossible). They will give police intrusive powers to examine the computers of innocent adults (outrageous). They will manage a few prosecutions of men who have watched videos of consenting adults engaged in Black & Decker sexual acts (a waste of police time). And they will not stop sexual violence, not that way. Porn doesn't make perverts. Perverts go looking for porn’. … [Britain must] ‘embrace a philosophy that does not stir in its men an uncontrolled lust for sex with a goat or sodomy with a small boy or intercourse with a corpse or the rape of a helpless and terrified woman’. - Mary Ellen Synon in the Mail’s Irish edition, 11 September. Any hope that the Home Office might have conveniently ‘forgotten’, or at least substantially modified, the exceedingly ill-considered proposals laid out in its ‘consultation’ on the possession of certain kinds of pornography, was immediately dashed by the moralistic and authoritarian tone taken by Home Office Minister Vernon Croaker in his response to the ‘consultation’ on 30 August.

Prosecution of a Douglas County case involving alleged sexual contact with a dead deer may hinge on the legal definition of the word “animal.” Bryan James Hathaway, 20, of Superior faces a misdemeanor charge of sexual gratification with an animal. He is accused of having sex with a dead deer he saw beside Stinson Avenue on Oct. 11. A motion filed last week by his attorney, public defender Fredric Anderson, argued that because the deer was dead, it was not considered an animal and the charge should be dismissed. “The statute does not prohibit one from having sex with a carcass,” Anderson wrote.

Unsavory Web hits vex Utah.

There are categories in which Utah ranks No. 1 in the nation, but certain results are not something state officials will be bragging about. At the 19th annual Child Abuse and Family Violence Conference in Salt Lake City Wednesday, FBI Special Agent Jeff Ross pointed out that according to Google Trends, Salt Lake City is tops in the nation when it comes to Internet searches for words such as "Jesus," "chocolate" and "home recipes." That may not be surprising. But what is a little more eye-opening is that the city also ranks No. 1 on the site for Internet searches for terms such as "nudity," "naked girls," "pornography" and "strip tease." Furthermore, Salt Lake is No. 2 in the nation for Google searches of such words as "hot sex" and "naughty." Ironically, the city also ranks No. 2 for "family values." In other disturbing rankings, according to Google Trends as related by the FBI, the city is: Fifth in the nation for searches regarding "incest."Seventh for searches on "child pornography." Eighth for searches on "sex."Tenth for searches on "pedo," short for pedophile. Utah also has more computers per capita than any other state in the country, according to Ross. What all that data add up to is that the FBI and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force from the Utah Attorney General's Office are both very, very busy.

Google, Yahoo, Microsoft adopt same Web index tool.

Search engine rivals Google, Yahoo and Microsoft are teaming up to make it easier for Web site owners to make sure their sites get included in the Web indexes, the companies are expected to announce Thursday. The companies are adopting Google's Sitemaps protocol, available since June 2005, that allows Web site owners to manually feed their pages to Google and to check whether their sites have been crawled. Web site owners have had to follow similar processes at each of the other major search engines separately. Now, Web site owners will be able to go to one place for alerting the search engines to their Web pages, something they have been requesting for some time, said Tim Mayer, director of product management at Yahoo Search.
